Using Font View

Font View is a utility application for Symbian phones which has two functions:
  • Display a list of the fonts available in a phone.
  • See and edit some text in any of the fonts available on the phone.

This screen shot shows the available fonts view:

After a font has been selected the following menu options are available:
  • Increase the font size by 10 twips.
  • Decrease the font size by 10 twips
  • Enter a Unicode value. For example to enter the Greek Epsilon ε character, enter the Unicode value in hex 03B5.
  • Enter a font size in twips.

This screen shot shows the text view with the chosen font.

You can enter text either from the keypad or touch screen.

Notes and FAQ:

If a font does not contain a character then it is displayed as a square. For example the Series 60 ZDigi font only contains numbers, so all letters are displayed as squares when this font is selected.

Installing Font View allows the user to test the fonts in a phone. It does not contain any extra fonts. For example you can check if your phone can display Chinese characters with the fonts installed. Font view does not allow you to display Chinese characters if you do not have the correct font.

Font view allows the user the user to view any font in the phone in any available size.  It cannot change the font size in any other application such as text or email.

Example unicode values

enter 0061 to display the "a" character (LATIN SMALL LETTER A)
enter 0062 to display the "b" character (LATIN SMALL LETTER B)
.....
enter 03B5 to display the "ε" character (Greek Epsilon)

....

For more character values see the unicode standard here http://unicode.org/charts/

FontView is available for most Nokia Symbian phones, including:
S60 3.2 phones: N95,
Symbian^3 phones: N97, 5800,  X6
Symbian^3 phones N8
